On and off, I've tended to read quite a bit. So, I thought I'd put up some reviews of books as I read them. In time, I may go back and add reviews of some of the books I read in the past. Not massively exciting, but I suppose it may be of interest to someone, somewhere (perhaps).
Titus Groan - Mervyn Peake
I'm still not entirely sure what this is. It's a dark medieval-style fantasy, set around the Groan dynasty. The atmosphere is one of immense stagnation and futility, and there's a feeling of unreality and madness. It's almost like I think Kafka should be, it Kafka wasn't rubbish. The text itself is very dense and descriptive, if ponderous, although it's not without touches of humour. The plot itself is simple, if vicious, although it's obviously the start of a series, rather than a particularly good story in itelf.
