On and off, I've tended to read quite a bit. So, I thought I'd put up some reviews of books as I read them. In time, I may go back and add reviews of some of the books I read in the past. Not massively exciting, but I suppose it may be of interest to someone, somewhere (perhaps).
Idoru - William Gibson
Continuing my re-reading of Gibson's book, I read Idoru. On the whole, I'd say I prefer it to Virtual Light. It's set in the same world, with a loose overlapping of characters, and the start was somewhat underwhelming. However, it picks up the pace as the various threads start to weave together. It feels more like Neuromancer-era Gibson - we have the big, tough minder character, a guy with mysterious computer abilities, smugglers, pop stars, Japan etc. It also has the strange technology blind spots. The portable supercomputers they have need wired network access. Strange how used we've got to wireless. Anyway, great fun.
