To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee

30 million copies sold, Pulitzer prize winner... must be good, no? Well, it was pretty good, but it must be said that it didn't deeply affect me. The civil rights angle probably lacks much of the effect it would have had in the past, as attitudes have moved. The evocation of the US South is very impressive - you can practically feel the heat - but the ending is so predictable as to be really quite disappointing.
